Size Matters
Size Matters is a first-person puzzle game where scale becomes your greatest tool. Armed with a device capable of shrinking and enlarging objects, infiltrate a secured museum, manipulate the environment, bypass hazards and turn everyday objects into platforms, cover and pathways. When anything can become bigger or smaller, the solution is often hiding in plain sight.
Game Overview
Size Matters is a first-person environmental puzzle game built around one ability: the power to change the size of objects. Armed with a device capable of shrinking and enlarging the environment, the player infiltrates a secured museum and uses scale itself as a problem-solving tool.
A crate blocking a doorway is no longer an obstacle if it can be shrunk. A pedestal too short to climb becomes a staircase when enlarged. An object too heavy to move becomes small enough to carry. A dangerous laser can be blocked by turning an ordinary object into a giant piece of cover.
Instead of searching the environment for the correct tool, the player changes the properties of the environment until the objects already around them become the tools they need. Scale is the mechanic. Perspective is the puzzle.
The Shrink / Grow Mechanic
Shrink — objects become smaller, lighter and easier to manipulate: clear blocked paths, move oversized objects, carry them elsewhere, slip them through tight spaces and prepare them for repositioning.
Grow — objects become larger and occupy more space: create platforms, makeshift stairs and bridges, block hazards, raise yourself to inaccessible areas, and turn insignificant objects into major level geometry.
Object Manipulation
Scale manipulation becomes more interesting because objects can also be physically repositioned. A typical puzzle may involve several stages: shrink an object, pick it up, move it somewhere useful, place it, enlarge it, climb onto it. The mechanic becomes about rearranging spaces through scale.
Stealth and Hazards
Security systems such as laser grids create areas the player cannot simply walk through. Scale manipulation becomes part of the solution: a large enough object can block a laser, a small enough object can fit into a useful space. Guards and moving obstacles add timing alongside environmental reasoning.
The Museum
The game takes place inside a stylized museum filled with objects of dramatically different shapes, sizes and purposes — displays, statues, pedestals, crates, furniture and architectural pieces. Almost anything can become part of a solution once its scale changes.
